HobbyMatch ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information when you use HobbyMatch:
- Account information — your name, email address, location and age range when you create an account
- Profile information — your interests, hobbies, profile photo and cover photo
- Session data — hobby sessions you log including title, duration, rating, notes and photos
- Location data — precise device coordinates when you grant permission, plus the city or general area used for nearby discovery and group-session matching
- Usage data — how you interact with the app including features used and content viewed
- Device information — device type, operating system and push notification tokens
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and personalise the HobbyMatch service
- To generate hobby recommendations matched to your interests
- To show you nearby venues and clubs relevant to your hobbies
- To enable social features including following, likes and comments
- To send push notifications about activity from people you follow
- To diagnose reliability problems and, when enabled, understand aggregated feature usage
- To respond to support requests
3. Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share your information only in these circumstances:
- With other users — your profile, interests and shared sessions are visible to other HobbyMatch users according to your privacy settings
- Service providers — providers supporting database/authentication, hosting, hobby recommendations, maps and places, transactional email, push notifications, images and sign-in may process the minimum data required to provide those services. Current providers include Supabase, Anthropic, Google, Railway, Upstash, Resend, Expo and Unsplash
- Legal requirements — we may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users
4. Data Storage
Your data is stored securely on Supabase servers located in the European Union. We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit and at rest.
5. Location Data
When you grant location permission, HobbyMatch may store coordinates to calculate distance and match you with nearby people, venues or group sessions. Other users should receive only a general area or calculated distance, not your stored coordinates. You can withdraw device permission, but information already required for an active session may be retained until that session expires or is deleted.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and all associated data (available in the app under Account → Delete my account)
- Export your data
- Opt out of push notifications (available in Account → Notifications)
- Set your profile to private (available in Account → Private profile)
7. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all personal data is permanently deleted within 30 days.
8. Children's Privacy
HobbyMatch is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email. Continued use of HobbyMatch after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
